After the independence wars of the “kuruc” led by Prince Ferenc Rakovici II and after the peace of Szatmàr (l7ll) which sanctioned the compromise between the Habsburgs and the Hungarian nobility, the first half of the new century was marked by the material reconstruction, social and cultural of the country. This material and cultural reconstruction of Hungary was determined by the great social activity of the Hungarian Catholic Church in close connection with the aristocracy and the Hungarian nobility under the sign of the winning Counter-Reformation.
